Followings are some points to be taken care of while travelling to North-Eastern region of India.

  • A proper VISA to enter and stay in India is a must.
  • Before entering into some North Eastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland travellers need to have Restricted Area Permission or Protected Area Persission.
  • Get medical check-up before traveling to North-east India. Always keep a personal first aid box with sufficient mosquito repellent to prevent the mosquito bite
  • Don't ever enter a temple, tomb, dargah or Gurudwara with shoes on and/or scantily dressed.
  • Do not encourage beggars
  • Always drink safe mineral water and take well-cooked food.
  • Don't photograph women without permission. Avoid taking photographs of places (i.e military base, religious place, etc.) where filming is restricted.
  • Avoid public drunkenness and drugs.
  • Be security conscious. Do not forget to keep the contact numbers of the local representatives and the police stations
  • Keep yourself up to date with climate, political situation & economy of the destination.
  • Do not carry any kind of firearms, ammunition or toxic material as it is strictly prohibited.

Topography and Climate

Nagaland has a pleasant climate. The climate of Nagaland is generally cool in winter and pleasantly warm in summer specially in the interior places and higher hills. In winter the night temperature comes down between 4°c to 1°c in December, January, and February which are the coldest months in the year. The temperature does not rise beyond 32°c and the average summer temperature is 22°c to 27°c.

Entry formalities-
Before embarking on a journey to Nagaland, acquiring the entry permit is a must. Domestic tourists should obtain the Inner Line permit issued by the authorities mentioned below. Permit fee is INR 6 per applicant.

Foreign tourists should travel in a minimum group of four people and they require a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) / Protected Area Permit (PAP) to enter Nagaland. They are allowed to visit all 11 district headquarters and specified places with this permit, which is valid for 10 days and extendable for upto a month.
