Historical Places
Kohima - This pretty capital township of the state is perched at a height of 1495 m is unspoilt, tranquil and immersed in history, a fine account of which can be found in the book - "the Campaign in Burma" by Lt. Col. Frank Owen.
Tourist will find themselves with several options of interesting things to see and do, a few of which have been suggested below -
The War Cemetary - This cemetery is memorial commemorating the memories of the officers and men who sacrificed their lives regardless of race , nationality or religion during World War II . The Common War Graves Commission Keeps the cemetery very well-maintained. A serene and rose filled stretch of green and graves, with two tall crosses it is one of the most well recognized feature of the state.
The Catholic Cathedral -The red roof of this Cathedral of Reconciliation at Aradurah hills is an important landmark of Kohima.The carved wooden crucifix is the largest in India.
The State Museum - Essentially a diorama, it showcases some of the most fascinating aspects of Naga tribal life. Ancestral weaponry, carved gateposts, status pillars that record the feast of merit and traditional Naga Costumes and jewels are here for display.
The museum is open from 10 am to 3 pm and are closed on Sundays and holidays.
Wildlife Sanctuary
Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary
The Fakim Sanctuary in Nagaland is close to the Myanmar border. The sanctuary lies in the Pungro circle headquarters in Nagaland. This Sanctuary receives high rainfall and is the home to numerous flora & fauna. Important trees found in the district are, Bonsum, Bogipoma, Khasi Pine, Oaks, Amari, Gamari, Hollock, Nahor, Uriam, Alder, Kachnar, Sasi, etc. Because of heavy rainfall in this area, the forests are full of undergrowth shrubs. More than dozen species of ferns and numerous species of orchids are found in this place. Rhododendrons are found flowering pleasantly in March- April. Various varieties of canes bamboos are also found in abundance. Trees of Dalchini and Tejpata are found scattered in the area. Some important animals found here are; Tiger, Hoolock gibbons, Panther, Jungle Cat, Himalayan Bear, Bison, Sambar, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Slender Loris etc. Indian Horn Bill, Tragopan Pheasant, Grey Pheasant, Jungle Fowl, Green Pigeon, Doves etc are the important birds of the region.
Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary
The Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary in Nagaland is under the preservation of the Forest Wildlife Department. It is the home to various animals including some rare species of birds. The sanctuary is rich with varied wealth of flora & fauna. An exotic Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary is home to Hoolock Gibbon, the only Gibbon found in India; other wildlife includes Elephant, Mithun, Sambar, Barking Deer, Goral, Flying Squirrel, Wild Dog, Tiger, Sloth Bear, among birds are Kaleej and common pheasant, Hornbill and Black Stor .
Ethinic Tour
Nagaland is one of the most sought after destination by adventure lovers. Some of these adventure hotspots are Japfu Peak and the Dzukou Valley.
These sites provides the perfect scope for trekking, climbing as well as camping amidst beautiful locales.It is best to visit these places in the months of November to March.

Trekking
The best way of discovering the beauties of Nagaland is via trekking. The state offers adequate facilities for trekkers who visit the state. The Dzukou Valley in Nagaland is 2438m high and is the best place for trekking in Nagaland. The time period between the months of June-September is the ideal time for visiting the place.
Climbing
If you need something more exciting & adventurous then you can opt for climbing. The Japfu peak in Nagaland is the best place for climbing.
Camping
There are various places in Nagaland, which are perfect for camping. Some of the common ones are Dzukou Valley, Japfu peak etc.
